BYU Move-In Weekend: Where to Stay (and Keep the Little Kids Happy)

Moving your oldest into the dorms at BYU is a big day — and if you’ve got younger kids along for the ride, it can also be a long one. The smart move: turn move-in weekend into a little family vacation, with a home base that the younger crew actually looks forward to.

Close to the dorms, big enough for everyone

The Provo Canyon Treehouse is about 16 minutes from Helaman Halls, so you can make as many trips to campus as move-in requires without a long haul each time. And with room for up to 12, there’s space for the whole family — including the freshman, for one last night together before they’re official.

What makes the younger kids happy

The backyard hot tub, grill, and patio beside the creek

While big sister settles into her dorm, the little ones get a vacation of their own:

  • A bunk room and a sleeping loft — an instant hit with kids
  • A hot tub and a creek out the back door
  • A fire pit for s’mores after the boxes are unpacked
  • Bridal Veil Falls and the Provo River Trail minutes away for an easy outing

It’s close enough to campus to be practical, and far enough up the canyon to feel like a real getaway.

A soft landing for a big transition

The creek running behind the cabin

Move-in weekend is emotional — for the student and the parents. Having a calm, comfortable place in the pines to regroup (and let the younger kids burn off energy) makes the whole weekend easier.

Take a look at the cabin, then check availability on Evolve for late-August move-in dates.
